This symposium examines the waqf (endowment) system in Algeria from the 16th to the 20th centuries, analyzing its social, economic and cultural roles through historical and documentary approaches. The conference aims to highlight the waqf’s role in modern and contemporary Algerian history, study its social/economic/cultural functions, trace its development under Ottoman and colonial rule, encourage academic research on waqf history and promote the revival and valorization of waqf heritage in Algeria. »
